'GOAL SETTING IS POINTLESS UNLESS WE'RE GOAL GETTING'
We’re told time and time again we must have goals. We can set fabulous looking goals, but if we don’t achieve them we feel like a failure again and again, which creates a repetitive and negative pattern.
So if we learn how to set the ‘right’ goals for ourselves we will then make sure we succeed. Success inspires us to then set more challenging goals, and we will usually continue to succeed!
A wide man once said:
“You can have anything you want –if you want it badly enough. You can be anything you want to be, do anything you set out to accomplish if you hold to that desire with singleness of purpose.” Abraham Lincoln.
'7 GOAL GETTING TIPS'
1. Define your purpose.
What exactly do you want? Rather than the broad plan to ‘buy a house’, be specific. Is it a family home or an investment property? Where is it? What does it look like how much does it cost? Know the details and get emotionally connected to them.
How will achieving that goal make you feel? How will not achieve it make you feel?
2. Set a Plan.
Start from today and plan the steps to reach your goal working from the goal backwards.
3. Always set a date so that you have a timeline to stick to.
4. Focus on your goals daily.
Visualise them being your reality right now. Remind yourself why you set them, and how it will feel to succeed every day.
5. Monitor Your Progress.
Create a self monitoring system – like graphs, a calendar, phone reminders or a friend to keep you accountable. Set 3 or 4 milestones that lead to your long range goal with finish dates.
6. Reward Yourself
Design a motivational reward system – Decide how you will reward yourself when you reach each milestone you have set.
7. Prevent Burn Out
Stay excited and motivated by making lists, prioritising and narrowing your focus (the more you spread your energy, the less you’ll achieve).
